So it’s almost that time again! Time to look for a fun, flirty way to be the most incredibly dressed person at the party! Oh wait, that’s every day, right? Well of course this time we’re talking about for Halloween! You may not like to admit it but even as adults it’s still super fun to be able to dress up for one night as anything you wish, whether it’s silly or sultry, and eat lots of really sugary things. Unfortunately, buying an entire ensemble for a few hours on one night a year is not the most financially practical thing to do so here are a few ideas to help create your own costumes, and hey, who’s going to complain about getting extra usage from their swimwear?
Mermaid
Obviously we’re all still secretly fans of the red-haired mermaid that swam into our hearts many years ago so why not channel your inner Ariel and dress as a mermaid? You can easily create the “tail” with a long, swishy skirt in an appropriate green or get creative by decorating a Goodwill find with some sequins to create scales. Add your own bathing suit top or find an appropriately sized pair of clam-shells and voila, you’re officially an ocean-dweller!
Hula Girl
Have you ever seen a hula girl who wasn’t smiling? Neither have we, so be the life of the party with your happy hula self. You can find cheap grass skirts at most dollar or party stores, as well as artificial leis and flowers. Add a tropical-colored bikini top and some cute wedges or flip-flops and you’ll be ready to shake it all through the night. Just don’t overdo it with the umbrella-topped beverages!
Belly Dancer
If you’re looking for something a bit more exotic, a belly dancer is a fun way to play up your mystique. Slip on a cute bikini (bonus points for an Indian-theme print), add a breezy skirt or cover-up, layer on tons of bangles and beads, and add as much kohl eyeliner as you dare. You can kick up the authenticity a notch by adding some belly chains or anklets or be extra adventurous by getting henna tattoos on your hands or feet.
